Carrier Pigeon Beats Internet in South Africa
An IT company struggling with slow internet speeds has discovered a new way to dramatically increase its data transmission rates – a carrier pigeon.
Tired of transaction with unreasonably slow internet speeds, Unlimited IT of Durban, South Africa, decided to make a dot by comparison the ADSL speeds of Telkom, the country's largest net provider, with the upper of Winston, a pigeon. The idea was born when a frustrated Limitless employee aforesaid it would be faster to just send information away carrier pigeon.
"We celebrity ourselves on being innovative, so we decided to trial that affirmation," said Unlimited's Kevin Rolfe.
Rules were put into place to see a fair race: No cats were allowed and Winston was not allowed to eat any public presentation-enhancing birdseed before his flight. The chick was equipt with a four-gigabyte retention stick and set loose from the party's call center in Howick, 60 miles away from Unlimited's Durban office. Simultaneously, an upload of the data between the 2 offices was started.
Winston took one hour and eight minutes to fly from one office to the other and deliver his cargo, while another hour was required to upload the data from the stick their computers. Tthe online data transmission, interim, was only four percent double-dyed over the same stretch of time.
"Winston is over the daydream," Rolfe said of the feathered cyberspace-killer. "He is blissful to be support at the office and is now just chilling with his friends."
Telkom, by nature, claimed it wasn't liable for the slow internet speeds at Unlimited IT. In an email, the company said, "Several recommendations have, in the ultimo, been made to the client just no of these throw, up to now, been established."
